Sylvia Burwell, the Health and Human Services Secretary, has recommended that every state begin screening newborns for ALD. Currently, New York and Connecticut are the only states who have implemented testing for ALD in newborns. By screening newborns, the disease can quickly be identified and treatment can begin immediately.
