Brian’s Artwork
When Brian was a student at Branford High School, a Senior Project was one of the graduation requirements. It was an independent study experience that allowed students the opportunity to learn something for themselves or a student could do something for the good of the community. Knowing that Brian enjoyed various arts and craftwork, one of his teachers introduced him to Guilford artist, Brendan Loughlin. It turned out to be a wonderful friendship.
Every Monday afternoon Brendan came to the high school to work with Brian, his mom and his paraprofessional, Sue. Brian loved the time he spent with Brendan and continues to paint using the Pastac technique that Brendan taught him. From time to time Brian, Jean and Brendan enjoy some painting time together.
The learning experience Brendan provided was a great gift to Brian. Brian seems to love being an artist and giving his artwork to others. He is able to communicate his choices of what he would like to paint by activating a communication device. Jean can trace over what they paint with thermal paper and a hot pen causing the waxy surface to raise so that Brian can feel what he painted. Brian chose to do his signature in lower case letters like Brendan does. We use his initials, bjk.
